MELONEE D. GAINESMelonee D. Gaines is the owner and lead maven of MPact Media Group, a media and public relations consulting firm and has written for MLK50.com, WKNO News, High Ground News, Edible Memphis, CRISIS Magazine, and TheGrio.com. She also works as a literacy specialist with Shelby County Schools and has taught from pre-K to higher education for over 15 years.
Her career has included programming and public relations work with the Southern University of New Orleans, the American Black Film Festival, and Essence Festival, and educational outreach and fundraising alongside communities in Baltimore, Atlantic City, Detroit, Flint, and rural Mississippi. Born by the water in New Orleans and rooted on her grandmother’s land in Picayune, Mississippi, Melonee has made Memphis her home for the last 10 years. She holds degrees in English literature from the University of Southern Mississippi and the University of Memphis. She is the proud mother to a teenage womanist-in-training and a happy shih tzu.
