DREENA WHITFIELD-BROWNDreena Whitfield-Brown is the founder and CEO of the New Jersey-based public relations and strategic communications firm, WhitPR. Born in Newark and raised in Westfield, this New Jersey native is a new-ish mommy, navigating the demands of a booming Black business. A savvy Jersey Girl, Dreena earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communications from Lincoln University of Pennsylvania.
A daughter of a single parent home, Dreena learned independence at an early age and attributes her success to her mother. “My mother worked three jobs consecutively at one point to care for my brother and me,” she says. “It’s from her that I developed my work ethic. She is the hardest working woman I know, and I wouldn’t be who I am without her. She always taught us to not give up, have faith, and pray through the good and bad times. I started WhitPR in my living room in 2009; with no clients, no media contacts, and no professional mentors—but my mother’s wisdom has always lifted me up.” Today, Dreena juggles her burgeoning Black-owned business with a robust portfolio of domestic clients with international reach along with her young son and husband. In all Dreena’s work she centers the business and elevation of Black voices, Black women, and movements, deliberately.
